½ cup of milk
1 cup of sugar
½ cup of water

Powdered sugar
1 egg
2 cups of all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon of baking soda
2 tablespoon vinegar
1½ tablespoons of shortening
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 cup of sliced strawberries
Canola or vegetables oil for deep frying

How to make the doughnuts:

Combine the water and ½ cup of sugar in a small saucepan. Boil over medium-high heat and stir thoroughly until the sugar dissolves. Add the strawberries and boil for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 more minutes. Strain the liquid and set aside to cool.

Mix together the vinegar and milk. Stir carefully and let it stand for a few minutes until the mixture thickens. Pour the remaining ½ cup of sugar into a small bowl and cream together with the shortening until it is well blended. In a different bowl, beat the egg with the vanilla extract. Combine the remaining ingredients (flour, baking soda and salt). Stir in the beaten egg, sugar mixture and the milk-vinegar mixture. Roll on floured surface to about 1/3 inch thick, cut into doughnuts and let stand for about 10 minutes.

Heat the oil in a large pan to 370°F. Fry the doughnuts until golden, turn over if needed.

Drain oil on paper towels, dust with powdered sugar, and garnish with the strawberries syrup.
